What Are You Celebrating This Christmas?
How many of you noticed the black and white tree and Christmas ornaments in this photo?
I like it because it reminds me of Christmas. People are being “Christmasy” on the outside, but are dead (black and white) on the inside.
It’s a sad realization because so many people DON’T know what Christmas is all about, or why we do really celebrate. We celebrate because we’ve been saved by the one who created us—God.
This is my least favorite time of year—mostly because of that hypocrisy.
Christmas is about celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ,
the savior AND LORD of this world. Period.
Christ was born, lived, and died as a sacrifice for our sins so that we would have eternal life. That’s what we celebrate—that he came to give us this most incredible and precious gift! Yet, every year more and more people sue to remove ANY and ALL mention of religious icons, or mention of the name of Christ from the holiday! This is the biggest anti-Christ holiday of all time!
Small wonder Scrooges and atheists abound at Christmas. They’re like the ornaments in the photo above—no life, no love, no brightness or color, and all greed. They lack the love that is the reason for the season.
Merchants have been trying to turn Christ’s birth into a season of spending, not giving for years. That’s evident in the “Happy Holidays!” rather than “Merry Christmas” greetings stores are forcing their clerks to use. Santa, not Christ, is the focus of the year.
This year, if all you’re celebrating is the exchange of presents and gifts and the food, parties, drinking and materialism that has come to represent Christmas, then wish people “Happy Holidays!” If you are one of the few who realize that the greatest gift of all is eternal life, and that Jesus Christ came to save us from ourselves and from sin, then say, “Merry Christmas.” But don’t confuse the two celebrations.
