I just joined Gold’s Gym. I paid the “enrollment fee” of $59 and then came home, thought about checking to see what the hours were, and found out there is a “$0 enrolllment” fee in effect now. My salesperson, “Matt,” said he “lowered” the fee from $59 to $29, but still, it pisses me off. Matt was great. Friendly, personable, relaxed and very, very good at what he does. And up until I found out he charged me the fee without telling me there was a “$0″ enrollment special (I …

Josh Grimes – Frat Boy Shoots Homeless For Sport

[Josh Grimes]
There’s a reason I hate fraternities. This story is one of them. The same year and month I left my job to live in a van in Colorado, Josh Grimes, a former Oregon State University student and fraternity member (Alpha Gamma Rho for all you proud frat rats) shot a homeless man, Dennis Sanderson, for sport. The man was in the alley behind the fraternity house looking for cans in the dumpster. This wasn’t the first time a fraternity member shot a homeless man, but it was the …

The Butterfly Effect

“It does not require a majority to prevail, but rather an irate, tireless minority keen to set brush fires in people’s minds.”
- Samuel Adams
A little over three years ago I was one of millions of unnamed, unknown homeless people living in a van in a Wal-Mart parking lot in Denver, Colorado. Then I was a little better known, having spoken at TED Global. Now that the video of the …

New Wal-Marts…

Say what you like about Wal-Mart, I’m grateful for them. Their parking lots are generally patrolled and no one hassles me when I park there for the night. But mom and pop’s won’t let me park overnight and I’d end up being towed, harassed or hassled. I’d gladly pay more if they offered overnight parking. I’d even pay $5 to park overnight. But that’s not happening anytime soon. …

Authenticity? Chris Brogan – you dropped the ball on this one…

Chris Brogan, of ChrisBrogan.com, sends out a pretty awesome newsletter and 99% of the time I’m on board, or at least in the same train station he’s in. But today he said he thought that in spite of hiding his disability and the fact that he was crippled from his voters and the public, President Roosevelt was definitely an “AUTHENTIC PERSON.”
Huh? Sorry Chris. I strongly disagree, for a lot of reasons. Here, dear readers are the facts, the definition of “Authentic” so you can see where I’m blogging from:

Have You Seen Elvis? He Shops at Wal-Mart.

One of the best things about being on the road, or just traveling in the United States are the Wal-Marts. If I am ever stuck for material for a book or story, it’s where I go. I recently found, then lost the bookmark for an internet site that’s all about the people who shop at Wal-Mart. It’s just a collection of people shopping in Wal-Mart. Like, these Elvis clones….or twins, or whatever. (taken from the site). If ever any demographic in the world shouted, “I did it my way,” it’s …
