I just finished a fantastic lunch. As I did it occurred to me that there’s a difference between a habit and a hardship. I’m creating new eating habits. For instance, lunch today:
One cup of Portabella mushrooms diced and then sauteed in a quarter cup of chicken broth, one pat of butter and a tablespoon of white wine. For the past six weeks or so I’ve been measuring and weighing my food, have given up soda, am drinking 8-10 glasses of water a day and have been walking more than usual. After what looked like a 2 pound weight gain last night, I got on the scale again this morning and saw I’d LOST another 5 pounds! Woohoo! To date I’ve lost 26 pounds since January 1, 2011 - 18 of that after giving up soda and getting serious about my diet. I think the 8 pounds prior …

There’s an old saying about being “in the moment.” It involves a zen master chased off of a cliff by a tiger. On the way down he passes a vine with a single, ripe luscious strawberry on it. I was standing in line at Walmart with all my fresh veggies and healthy food last week when a woman got in line behind me. I noticed her looking at every item in my cart and on the conveyor belt as though judging it. Maybe I was just being sensitive, but maybe not.
