Wash Your Hands of It

handwashing
A new study shows that people who wash their hands with soap and water - literally - after making a decision, have fewer regrets than those who don’t wash up. Researchers theorize the act of “washing your hands of the decision” sends a subconscious message to the brain.

I’m struck, not so much by the study or the results, but by how powerful our brains are, how susceptible to superstition, thoughts, affirmations and actions we are. “As a man thinketh, so he is.” Wise men from Job and Solomon to every motivational speaker on earth has passed the same message along - “Our thoughts define us, determine our actions and control everything from our moods to our ability to survive life-threatening situations.”

The power of our thoughts has been known for centuries. So why haven’t we done more to advance as humans, as people, as a society? Are we not getting the message? Or are we simply not acting on what we know?

Simply not acting on what we know - reminds me of another axiom "Becareful of the ruts you carve, you could be in them for a long time,
Interesting concept about the handwashing - that's actually a new one to me ... in that context. ;-)
Freuqent - as in when returning from a shopping expedition for grocieries or ?? , yes. As a pro-active disease prevention technique.

Thanks! It was new to me and very interesting - seems to work to re-enforce the "washing one's hands" of it in a very literal way!

If it really were just a matter of thought then I believe we really would be better humans, but I think alng with the thought we also have to follow through with concentrated effort which we need to re-inforce every moment of every day it takes to make the change. And we do need to change - I believe we've become a race of lazy, perverse, angry people whose misery we want to share with everyone we come in contact with. As the od saying goes, misery loves company.

  • We just need to be reminded about these things every so often. Thanks for the reminder. : )
