Hire Me

If you’ve come here, you want to know what hiring me is going to cost. So I’ll cut to the chase. My writing fees are a flat $100 an hour, but for projects, on-going writing and jobs where there are other brilliantly expressed advantages and possibilities, I’m willing to negotiate a package proposal.

I am available for:

Speaking and speech writing Fees are based on length and topic of speech, audience size, travel and expenses. Please contact me at to discuss your needs.

Ghostwriting - Bids are based on several things - how much work you’ve done already. How much work I will need to do. Writing a book from scratch from just an idea you have is going to be much more expensive than my massaging a manuscript you’ve labored over for three years, but have written already. Why? Fewer hours. The number of words, amount of research, editing, fact-checking - a lot of things go into the estimate for ghostwriting. Fees can be as low as $125 for an 800-word article with little research to $500 for a 1,200 word article with an hour or more of research, plus writing and photos. Email or call me for a personalized bid.

My rates for ghosting an ebook range from $1,500 and up, again, depending on how much info you have already, number of words and photos etc.

Ghost writers charge anywhere from $2 a page to $25 a page. As with anything in life, you get what you pay for. If you’re hoping to get a ghostwriter to write your book for $100 and see it turn into a best seller, keep dreaming. You may find that one-in-a-million writer who will write cheaply and brilliantly, but if they’re that good, the price does eventually go way up as demand increases (my rates go up as my experience and client base grows. Hire me now while rates are lower).

Expect to pay any recognized and successful ghostwriter:

Ghostwriting a book of 50,000 words: from $12,000 to $28,000

Ghostwriting a 90 - 120 page industry-standard, formatted screenplay:
from $5,000 to $25,000

Ghostwriting an article for a trade magazine or journal: from $1 per word

Check out Wikipedia’s article on ghostwriting as well:

Literary agent Madeleine Morel states that the average ghostwriter’s advance for work for major publishers is “between $30,000 and $100,000″ In 2001, the New York Times stated that the fee that the ghostwriter for Hillary Clinton’s memoirs will receive is probably about $500,000″ of her book’s $8 million advance, which “is near the top of flat fees paid to collaborators.”

According to Ghostwriters Ink, a professional ghostwriting service, this flat fee is usually closer to an average of $12,000 to $28,000 per book. By hiring the ghostwriter for this negotiated price, the clients ultimately keep all advances and post-publishing royalties and profits for themselves.

I will negotiate a royalties contract plus base pay if you like. I work with a literary agent who does that negotiating for me based on your idea/concept.

Copy-writing
Yes. Everyone CAN write, but not everyone can write well. If you want words that compel, convince, create and bring you a return on your investment (of time and money), then hire a copy-writer. It’s an art form and one well worth paying for. You’re still reading this right?

Brain Picking
If you want to pick my brain, get ideas, insights and opinions about your book, project or life, at the least it will cost you dinner, drinks and dessert at a very nice restaurant in addition to a $100 consulting fee. The advantage to dinner versus a straight hour of consulting is dinner typically lasts a little longer than a standard consulting hour and I typically can do a better job if I’ve spent time interacting over a meal with you. It’s not necessary, but it’s a fact.

I like steak and sushi. I have a one drink limit. After all - I’m driving. Actual writing, work, proposals, the writing down of said ideas and inspired thoughts and the actual implementation is up to you. Or, as I said above, my fees are $100 an hour. Let’s talk.

Yes, I do have a sense of humor. Yes, I enjoy helping people and non-profits. And, like everyone else in business, I do charge for my services. If you choose not to use me, can’t afford my rates or know someone who can do it for less than I do - I understand. That’s not a problem. I’ve had periods of cash flow like that too. However, I do pro-bono work for a set number of organizations and for a few friends who I know could use the help from time-to-time. But there’s a long, long, long line you’ll need to stand in to even be considered, and then it’s “as time permits” since I fit my pro bono work in between paid gigs.

Money is a tough thing for many people to talk about, or to “explore,” as my life coach friends say. I have no problem talking about it. My bottom line is, I am willing to trade time for money. I knew you’d understand!

I am looking for a ghostwriter. I starting writing the manuscript four years ago. This is my first manuscript and while story is what I wanted to say, I don't have any experience is creative writing. I am looking for someone who will take my story and give it some creative words between scenes to make it publishable. I'd like to know more about your experience and the number of books you've helped write along with the number of years you've been writing.

I just found you and your blog and I love it! I plan on following you for quite awhile. I've been down and I've been up and the journey between the two is always an adventure. Have not read your new book, obviously since it is not out, about how your dog saved your life, but at one point, the only reason I stayed alive was because of my dog Ben.

I saw your talk on TED today. I'm glad to have found your blog and plan to keep up with your adventures. I enjoy your sense of humor.
I lost my home of twenty years in January. I decided to hit the road with my two dogs and two cats in a '72 pop up camper. I don't have my own blog or web site, but I did get on Facebook so I could stay in touch with friends.
I call this my “unintentional jouney”.
