The Last Time My Mother Hit Me

My friend Jule lost her husband to a heart aneurysm quickly and unexpectedly almost two years ago. She recently started the most incredible blog in the world about him and how she met him and their relationship. I regularly weep with the rawness and honesty of it. You should definitely read it. Don’t Give Unless You WANT To.

A friend of mine (Richard Davis) from my newspaper days sent me a photo today. Perhaps you’ve seen one similar to it before. The story is usually the same - a duck or goose family gets stranded somewhere and has to cross a busy highway to get to a water source. This happened in Danville, VA recently and Richard stopped to photograph it.

Radicalization

I’m working on some research for a client about radicalization and terrorists, but in reading the work so many people have done on the subject I realized how radicalization is NOT just about suicide bombers and war protesters and terrorists. It’s about the human race. It’s about how we respond and react and act in our world.
For the record, a definition of Radicalization:

Virginia Speeding Fines $3,550

UPDATE: I’ve received several comments about this being “An old law.” But I also know that a friend of mine from Tennessee has a daughter attending VCU. The girl moved back home after her last semester and was caught speeding - doing about 18 miles over the speed limit. She found an attorney who told her about this law - or one very very similar to it and told her that the fine could not be reduced, that she could go to jail, lose her license - everything stated below. …
