Martha Jefferson Hospital’s New Death Panel

Martha Jefferson Hospital of Charlottesville, VA is ahead of its time, and first in line to claim the honor of Sarah Palin’s”Death Panel” nomination!
Martha Jefferson Hospital already has a death panel, not a formal one, but their security guards are keeping patients from seeking legitimate medical services. It could be worse I suppose. There are two hospitals in Charlottesville, VA, Martha Jefferson Hospital and The University of Virginia. The University of Virginia had staff members using restraints and raping patients in the Psychiatric Ward back in 2003. Nasty Public Relations mess that was….So, UVA, had its staff rapists, MJH has its Nazi security squad.
Anyway, this death panel of MJH is called “Security.” They think that they are in Iraq on personal assignment from Homeland Security. No one gets by them for medical treatment if they can help it. No one!! How do I know….?
After going to Emergency Room at MJH a couple of months ago for a life threatening allergic reaction, I was treated with the usual IV drugs and allowed to sleep off most of the effects of the drugs. The doctor said I could leave the ER (about midnight) if someone would drive me home. Since I was in the process of moving from Danville to Richmond, “Home” was the van. I had just unloaded all my belongings into a storage shed outside town when the hives hit. I explained this to the doctor and said, “I have a camper (my van is a camper -complete with bed, kitchen and porta potty) in the parking lot. Can I just sleep there?” He said “Yes, just don’t drive until the drugs have worn off.”
So I did. For the next 2-3 days the followup drugs did not work and the hives reappeared, along with nausea, vomiting and more breathing problems. After an hour spent vomiting in the hospital bathroom, and trying to decide if I should go back to the ER I laid down in the van again to see how bad it was going to get. I was sick, but breathing. The security officer knocked on the window of the van and demanded I leave. I explained why I was there, showed him the discharge papers and told him why I was waiting. He insisted I leave. I insisted I would have to drive under the influence of medication if I did - putting Martha Jefferson Hospital at risk of BEING SUED….if I were in an accident. I declined to drive. I said, “Get a doctor.” He declined, then gave me a rude response and told me to “Get out of here first thing in the morning.” I did. I left as soon as I felt I was in condition to drive.
Since that time I’ve been living in Richmond. I’ve had hives to some degree or other and have a doctor’s appointment outside DC this week to find out what is causing them.
On Saturday evening I left Richmond, went out to my storage shed outside Charlottesville to get some books and items I need for a business trip next week. The hives started again. I took some Benedryl and saw no difference. The hives started up my throat and face, usually a sign my breathing will become affected. So I drove to the nearest ER, the outpatient clinc off I-64. I parked, went inside, showed the security guard (a young guy) and the registration person my arms (covered in hives) and said, “I’ve been treated here before for this. They just started, I took some Benedryl and it doesn’t seem to be working. I can’t tell if it will work or not. Could I sit in the ER for an hour until I can see if it is going to get worse or subside?” They said, “Yes! Sure!” so I sat there. When the hives started to fade I told them, “The medicine is working, I’m going home now.” They said, “Okay, have a great night.” I got into my van, started the engine and was pulling out when the young security guard came running out and asked to see my ID. I showed it to him and asked him what the problem was. He said, “The other security guard said he’s seen you hanging around here and wanted to know what you were doing here.”
Can you believe it?! I told him, “Remember, I came in, showed you my hives, asked if I could sit in the ER for an hour, until they went away or not. They have, I’m leaving. So what’s the problem? What law have I broken? I was here BY PERMISSION seeking medical treatment.”
He shrugged and gave me my ID back. So much for waiting for Obama’s health care plan and the death panels to kick in. Martha Jefferson Hospital already has their plan in place. Harass, intimidate, threaten, stalk and bully patients. I guess it’s a plan for MJH, but not a very good one.
If you must go through Charlottesville, VA, try not to get sick, be in an accident or visit anyone at Martha Jefferson Hospital. You could be threatened, bullied, towed or abused. EVEN IF YOU HAVE A LEGAL, LEGITIMATE REASON to be there. You’ve been warned.
