What People Buy at 3 a.m. at Wal-Mart
It’s hot in Myrtle Beach. Even at 3 a.m. So I couldn’t sleep very well and went into Wal-Mart to buy some rubbing alcohol for my bug bites (mosquitoes are a down side to van dwelling). Other than stockers putting things on shelves there weren’t any other people in the store….until I got in line. Then a young woman and a Wal-Mart employee came up behind me.
“Ah,” I said.
“Goldfish?”
Wal-Mart guy shrugs.
“It’s a fish.”
The woman nodded.
“It’s a Black fan-tailed Goldfish,” she said, very authoritatively.
“And his name is Obama.”
We all nodded.
I was biting my lip so I wouldn’t laugh or I would have asked her WHY she was buying a black fan-tailed goldfish named Obama at 3 a.m., but then I suppose if you work a shift somewhere, 3 a.m. is like 3 p.m. to those of us who have library hours. And I shouldn’t laugh at all really. After all, I live in a van and work out of coffee shops and libraries. Now THAT, is funny!
