Happy Birthday to Me!!
Today is my birthday!! I’m 55 and proud of it. Considering my parents repeatedly told me they wished I’d never been born, it’s a miracle I made it this far.
Apparently I saw something in myself they didn’t.
So since 55 is a special number to me, I celebrated. I ordered my favorite food in the whole world - Salmon Pinwheels from Allen Brothers. They’re stuffed with spinach and crab and brie - and not many calories (less than a steak). Divine. They are simply divine. If you ever want my undying adoration and love - give me salmon pinwheels! Spinach and brie/crab only please. The truffles have a musty mushroomy taste and while okay, don’t bring about the same gastronomical thrill as the brie, spinach and crab.
As a pre-birthday navel gazing contemplation in anticipation move, I also went back and reread a lot of my posts from this past year. I was kind of bummed - since so many are so serious. I need to lighten up, have more fun, and enjoy writing more. I really do love humor and there are times I can even pull off a witty piece or two. I vow to play more this coming year.
I admire most in the world my friend Tom Bentley who is a frigging genius, gifted humorist and writer. I always laugh so hard I cry when I read his blog. So now that I’m blind with tears and still feeling the effects of the joy of such cleverly crafted turns of phrase, I hereby vow to lighten up this next year. It’s another part of my birthday gift to myself.
I’m not going to ramble on and on. I’m just going to say, “Happy Birthday to me!” I’m so very, very happy I was born!
