We are in good AND interesting company!! I don't think we ever forget the feeling of being homeless, without a home, or a shower, or our own toilet and a door that locks behind us. I never will. Thank you again for sharing this!!

It looks like we are in good, or at least interesting and well known, company. I grew up for a few years with my family of origin and a series of foster homes from the age of two, so I did know at an early age what it was like not to have the security of a dependable home. I was homeless living on the street in Vancouver for a couple of months when I was fifteen before hitchhiking across the country to become barely housed in Toronto and Montreal. Then did the couch surfing thing when I was 24 for a few weeks; was homeless living in a tent (from March to the end of June, there was still snow on the ground and bears prowling around)on my husband's reserve in Northern Alberta just before I turned 30 for about three months, couch surfed a couple more times and was without an address while in a residential drug and alcohol treatment centre when I was 33. I have had a permanent home now (a mobile I bought for less than $3000!) for 15 years and there isn't a day that I don't wake up in my bed or walk through the door and feel gratitude and a sense close to awe that I have a home. My work as a Mental Health and Addictions worker brings me into almost daily contact with a lot of people who are homeless and I never forget what that's like.
Oh, and I have four cats who were also rescued from different experiences of homelessness.

Thank you! Thank you for being kind to Thomas Jane, and thank you for alerting me to his story. Amazing! You gave him HOPE. That's all we need - someone besides ourselves to believe in us. It's how we're wired as humans.

I actually used to know Thomas Jane when he was homeless. I used to let him work out for free at the gym I used to work at. He was a nice guy.

http://www.contactmusic.com/news.nsf/story/jane...
